Multimedia Audio Controller Driver?

Originally published October 14, 2011

Q

I am running an Emachines W3507 Series Desktop PC, I just received it from a friend. When I got it, it was running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 so I updated it to Service Pack 3. But I noticed after the update that I didn’t have the sound icon, (I did not see it in Service Pack 2 either). When I go to the Device Manager, Multimedia Audio Controller has a yellow exclamation mark. The sound card is there and is built onto the motherboard. I can not tell what the manufacture of the device driver is and does not tell me on my computer. It is labeled unknown. I do not know what I should do.

Use Speccy to diagnose the model number of the sound card. That page should also point you in the right direction of a device driver install.
