What is a SM BUS Controller and a Mass storage controller?

Q

What is a SM BUS Controller and a Mass storage controller? I have yellow “?” in device manager.

I reinstalled my operating system on a new hard drive but I did not use the original XP Home that came with the computer! I used xp professional and now I have a yellow question mark “?” in the device manager under both the (SM bus controller) and the (Mass storage controller)

My computer is a HP Pavilion dv5000 series and the actual number on bottom is DV5220us! I have know idea whether or not I need these or which driver I would use? Also if there are other drivers that I should download as well! I don’t have any other yellow “?” in my device manager! I did have to get this driver but don’t know if I need all or any of the rest!

Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection

Can anyone tell me what all I need since I used the XP prof disc instead of the original that came with this computer I am not sure what drivers and other stuff I need.

A

Install the motherboard chipset device drivers portion of your specific HP in question and it should remove those exclamation points for the system bus controller. You can find a direct link to HPs driver downloads here.
