DRIVERFINDER Review

Automatic Device Driver Update Software- Driverfinder Pro

What better piece of software to review @ Driverstorer than retail software that claims to automatically scan your computer for outdated device drivers, download the latest versions, and guide you through the installation process.
I have seen advertisements for such software products in the past, and I have always had a sense of uneasiness surrounding them.  This was until I was contacted by a representative @ DriverFinder.com, who graciously provided me with a retail license for the purpose of this review.  Downloading device drivers and manually installing them can be a pain, so let’s see how well driverfinder manages this task. Is DriverFinder safe? let’s find out.

Driverfinder Interface

For this driverfinder review, let’s start with the UI. The main User Interface of driverfinder is similar to that of antivirus software, with a large “Start Scan” button in the upper right corner.  The general layout is intuitive. Clicking on the “Start Scan” button quickly results in DriverFinder finding the outdated device drivers in your system.

Driverfinder Scan Results tab

Driverfinder’s Scan Results tab contains all the devices driverfinder found on your computer with outdated device drivers. Your present device driver versions and current available device driver versions are shown in the list, listed by device.

Driverfinder Backup Drivers tab

Driverfinder’s backup drivers tab contains a list of all the device drivers on your system, and an option to back up each individually.

Driverfinder Restore Drivers tab

Driverfinder’s Restore Drivers tab contains a list of device drivers you backed up via the Backup Drivers tab.  You can also choose the location to which these backup files are stored on your hard disks.

Driverfinder Settings tab Driverfinder’s Settings tab holds the remaining settings Driverfinder uses to operate correctly.  Driverfinder by default does not start when Windows starts, which is a good thing considering this is not a utility you need to run on a daily basis.  You have the option to change this if you wish to do so, however. Driverfinder also has proxy settings for those users behind a proxy server.

Driverfinder device driver download and installation process

After Driverfinder Identifies which device drivers are out of date on your computer, you have the option to download each device driver individually, or as a group by selecting “Download All” in the Scan Results tab. After you download the device drivers, the corresponding “Download” button becomes an “install” button or “open” button. This is the point where Driverfinder’s trial version download ends. Users will be prompted to purchase a Driverfinder serial or driverfinder license to be able to download and install the device drivers.

Here is where some users may get tripped up. Driverfinder allows you to run multiple instances of the downloaded install files.  This is not recommended, and device drivers should only be installed one at a time.  Clicking on an “install” button will run the executable which will backup, remove, then install the new device driver sets. An “Open” button will direct you to the file containing the new device driver sets, and the user will have to manually execute the installation .exe.

I went through and downloaded all the device drivers that Driverfinder found to be outdated, and each time I rebooted, rescanned, and I was able to start a new installation through driverfinder without any glitches.

Driverfinder Review Conclusions

Driverfinder is true to how it’s marketed.  Driverfinder scans your computer’s device drivers database and finds and updates out-of-date device drivers with little hassle. Driverfinder eliminates the research necessary when manually installing all the device driver sets your PC needs.  If you’re someone who has a computer with many unique peripheral devices and you don’t want the hassle of keeping up with the device driver update downloads and installations, Driverfinder may be the software for you. Is Driverfinder safe? Yes.
