Q:
I have an older computer that needs repair, but there aren’t any local computer stores in the area that have reasonable prices on one time repairs. I was thinking about buying a new computer soon anyway, but my old computer is messed up to the point that I need to at least be able to access my old data, and transfer it to my new computer. I understand that Best Buy has the Geek Squad, but I don’t think I’m ready to purchase tech support from them just yet. What are my options?
A:
Well, If you live near a local Best Buy, and since you plan on purchasing a new computer in the near future anyway, I would suggest purchasing a new computer from Best Buy or best buy.com, along with a tech support plan. When you purchase a Tech Support plan from Best Buy with a new computer, you receive a 50% discounted rate for the term of the service contract. So in theory, lets say you spend $400.00 on a new machine, and a 2 year tech support plan, you spend $600.. and the new computer and the old computer will be covered under the same tech support plan! This is the best way to go, seeing that you’re already in the market for a new computer, and you will have the assurance through the Best Buy Geek Squad Tech Support plan. Another added bonus is that a third computer will also be covered under this plan, and all three machines will receive free antivirus software for the duration of the service contract.

The free antivirus alone is a great deal, because 2 years of antivirus for three machines will undoubtedly cost more than $200.00 and you get to take in each of the three machines an unlimited times to the Geek Squad for servicing.
For those of you who are more tech savvy, consider a new build from Newegg, and looking for antivirus promo code deals.
